Biopesticidal silo bag prepared by co-extrusion process

Silo bag technology is used for storing grains in a hermetic plastic structure. The major limitation of this structure resistance to improper handling and external aggression, thus promoting pest incidence due alterations its internal atmosphere. In study, we developed biopesticidal silo consisting co-extruded three-layer film made polyethylene essential oil Mentha piperita (7% w/w) the inner layer. A with same but without was produced be as control. presence biopesticide confirmed by FTIR-spectroscopy. Thus, mechanical, optical chemical properties were evaluated. Diffusion coefficient from at 15, 25 35 °C estimated 6.4 ± 0.1 × 10-11, 1.45 0.17 10-10 1.30 0.2 cm2/s, respectively. Finally, tested against Rhyzopertha dominica, primary stored grain, showing 100 % mortality during time assayed (7 days). Hence, incorporation co-extrusion (low-cost efficient machinery) into layer could help replace synthetic pesticides avoid manipulation these field, preventing biotic infestation.
